Hello and welcome to my website!

I am Dr. Rona Benhorin (she/her) and I am clinical psychologist with over two decades of experience working with preschoolers, school age children, adolescents, and their families. If you are visiting this page, you may have some concerns about your child’s behavioral, emotional, and/or social development and adjustment.

Every child may exhibit some challenging behavior, sad mood, fearfulness, academic underachievement and/or social challenges from time to time. However, parents may have some reason for concern if these symptoms are more persistent, frequent, and/or intense than typically expected, as well as if these symptoms begin to interfere with the child’s and/or family’s daily living.

If you are trying to determine whether you and your child would benefit from professional consultation and support, answering the following questions may help guide you in your decision:

  • Does your child’s negative mood or behavior appear to be more intense or frequent than expected?
  • Does your child seem to lag behind in meeting social, emotional, or behavioral milestones compared to her same age peers?
  • Does your child's symptoms appear to negatively influence/impact his eating or sleeping habits, social interactions, school performance, and/or family dynamic?
  • Has your child become more distant, withdrawn, or secretive?
  • Do you find yourself  “walking on eggshells” in order to avoid trigerring your child’s symptoms?
  • Have other adults in your child’s life (e.g., teachers, coaches, extended family) expressed concern about your child’s behavior, mood, or social adjustment?
  • Has your child expressed frustration with her symptoms or has asked for help?
  • Do you feel at a loss as to how best help your child because nothing that you do seems to work?

If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, you and your child would likely benefit from some guidance. Therapy may be brief and consist of only a few sessions or may last longer, depending on the presenting concerns and the child’s and family’s needs. It may consist of individual work with the child, parent support and guidance sessions, family therapy, school consultation, or a combination of a few or all of the above services.

If you have any questions or would like to set up a free 15-minute phone consultation in order to determine whether your family would benefit from therapy, and/or to learn more about the services I provide, please contact me at drbenhorin@gmail.com.
